Each day, we offer multiple expert perspectives, engaging the private sector to find solutions and foster dialogue on what events mean for business. More than just reporting the news, The Cipher Brief helps readers understand what the news means to them.
The International Analyst is responsible for the preparation, development and production of all content related to Asian and Russian issues. This position will work with the Vice President of Analysis and the Managing Editor to coordinate the creative, editorial and technical implementation of digital content on The Cipher Brief.
Responsibilities 
  • Assist the Vice President of Analysis and staff with the creation and planning of daily content related to International issue.
  • Research and write content both for daily news and for long-term features.
  • Assist in management of expert commentator/contributor database; update and expand information to include date last used, twitter handle and areas of expertise.
  • Coordinate assembly of necessary components for each day’s content.
  • Provide research support for any writing done by the Managing Editor; develop outlines, find supporting facts and quotes, etc.
  • Support Content Manager in putting together The Weekly Cipher Brief newsletters; providing content and text.
  • Attend Congressional hearings and local university or think tank events to network, find contributors and generate story ideas.
  • Work with Content Manager to prepare promotional content for social media and The Weekly Cipher Brief.
Qualifications
  • MA (either complete or in progress) in national security, international strategy, foreign policy or a related field
  • Strong writing skills as well as ability to write and edit under deadline
  • An understanding of what makes compelling stories and what qualifies as news
  • Demonstrated interest in and experience writing about international security issues – to include cyber security
  • Fast, agile learner
