The Global Resources Center at the Gelman Libaray is seeking an hourly employee with Korean language skills who enjoys performing research and working with people to join the staff at the George Washington University Libraries. This is an exciting opportunity to explore specialized content, engage with researchers and scholars at GWU and DC-based think tanks, and learn about 21st century collections and resources in the field of international and area studies. All GRC employees are trained to use the library’s online system and GWU’s wide array of research-focused databases.
Primary responsibilities include:

Job Description: The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) seeks a Project Manager to contribute to our robust research agenda and help inform and influence U.S. policy and strategy toward the Asia-Pacific. The Project Manager will be responsible for administering several projects and programs within the PSA group, ensuring the quality and timeliness of NBR research, and overseeing the budgets and production processes related to these initiatives. This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt, staff position reporting to the Senior Vice President of Political and Security Affairs.
Qualifications: A successful candidate will have excellent communication and project management skills, display strong analytical skills and intellectual creativity, and demonstrate an independent and entrepreneurial spirit. S/he will work effectively and collaboratively within an active and motivated team, and help contribute to NBR’s long traditions of professionalism and cordiality. Additionally, s/he should be familiar with a wide range of countries and policy issues in the Asia-Pacific, and possess substantive knowledge of the region, its geopolitical dynamics, and relevant U.S. strategies and policies.
B.A. in international relations or a related field required; M.A. in international relations or a related field strongly preferred, though may be supplemented with practical experience. A working knowledge of Asian language(s) also preferred. U.S. military veterans are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Project Management: managing the complete range of project activities on schedule, within budget, and according to expectations for timeliness and quality
- Budget Management: maintaining budgets and budget reports, including tracking and coordinating payments, reimbursements, and other expenses
- Project Development: working with NBR leadership to conceptualize, develop, and expand PSA’s research agenda
- Team Building: Leading and motivating project teams to achieve specific objectives, and working within an active research team
- Research: as opportunities arise, conducting research and writing for a wide variety of internal and external publications
- Event Management: overseeing the design, logistics, and coordination of project meetings and related publications
- Outreach: maintaining and updating content on relevant NBR websites; representing NBR before a wide range of audiences
- Engagement: building and maintaining relationships with business leaders, scholars, government officials, and foreign interlocutors to facilitate research and new projects

Partnerships for International Strategies in Asia (PISA),

MIT's primary
international program, MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives
(MISTI), sends hundreds of students abroad annually for internships and
research in companies and labs. The MIT Japan Program is currently seeking a
full-time program manager to advertise the internship program, recruit and
interview MIT students, and match accepted students with internships in Japan.
The program manager will also oversee an annual intern program budget to assure funding; find, propose, and develop new sources of funding; and arrange events/activities to steward current program sponsors. They will develop curricula for, and train interns in, Japanese culture, history, and politics as preparation for placement in Japanese host institutions; and plan and facilitate an annual intern retreat. The program manager will maintain close contact with the host institutions, making two or three annual visits to Japan to ensure the quality of the arrangements and expand the pool of partners. They will organize on-campus events related to Japan (invited speakers, workshops, and conferences), and organize cultural events for the MIT community. The program manager will develop information materials about the program; handle communication with Japanese firms, educational institutions, and collaborators. Administrative tasks include: updating intern databases, managing and reviewing program accounts, and directing occasional student employees. The Japan program manager receives program goals from the faculty program director, and day-to-day supervision from the associate director of MISTI.
At least three years of professional experience with Japan is required.
Good cross-cultural communication skills are necessary. This includes excellent command of written and spoken Japanese and English. Good knowledge of Japan's corporate world, higher education, and research system is required. The ability to grasp and communicate broad picture of the program to students, potential sponsors, and Japanese partners is important. Should have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working with college students and alumni. Ability to work as part of a larger team is essential, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks, schedule and account for complex intern travel arrangements, schedule meetings, and manage multiple tasks under pressure. Must be skilled using Microsoft Office applications, and open to learning database and web editing software. US citizenship or permanent residency is required for this position.

The Congressional-Executive Commission on China is a bipartisan commission created by Congress in 2000 to monitor and report on human rights and rule of law developments in China. The Commission consists of Senators, Members of the House of Representatives, and senior officials from the Administration. The Commission is seeking a communications director to be responsible for developing and implementing a communications and outreach strategy to increase the accessibility, visibility, and relevance of the Commission's work to key stakeholders, including Commissioners, Congress, the Executive Branch, media, non-governmental organizations, and the general public.
Main duties:
• Develop and implement a communications and outreach strategy for the Commission's key stakeholders, including Commissioners, Congress, the Executive Branch, media, non-governmental organizations, and the general public.
• Develop and implement a strategy for increasing accessibility to Commission work products, including newsletters, political prisoner records, special reports, and the Annual Report.
• Increase media coverage and raise awareness on the Hill and to the general public regarding the Commission's work.
• Maintain the Commission's new Web site and social media sites (Twitter, Facebook).
• Draft, edit, and distribute Commission statements, press releases, newsletters, new media content, and event announcements.
• Develop, plan, and provide logistical support for Commission events, including hearings, roundtables, and briefings.
• Monitor, track, and assess the effectiveness of the Commission's outreach efforts.
Qualifications:
• Candidates must be a U.S. citizen.
• Candidates will have a B.A. with relevant work experience.
• Some background in layout and design (including for Web sites and publications) is desirable.
• Ability to speak and read Chinese is preferable.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, and the interpersonal skills and enthusiasm to work under tight deadlines and as part of a team.

The Commission is seeking professional staff members to assist in monitoring and reporting on substantive issues pertaining to the freedom of religion and criminal justice portfolios. The professional staff member will assist in assessing China's compliance or noncompliance with international human rights standards and Chinese domestic law. Successful candidates should have substantive background and/or an interest in one or more of these issue areas. Successful candidates should also possess the necessary Chinese language, English writing, and communication skills to effectively research, analyze, and explain such developments to U.S. policymakers and the broader public.
Main duties:
• Monitoring and researching Chinese and English language sources (media, government, NGO) for developments relating to their issue area.
• Identifying and analyzing key developments and reporting their significance orally and in writing, including through drafting sections of the Commission's Annual Reports, short analysis pieces, public statements, and press releases.
• Researching political prisoner cases and creating and maintaining case records in the CECC Political Prisoner Database.
• Assisting in organizing CECC public hearings and roundtables.
• Staff member also may be asked to travel to U.S. cities, China, or other foreign locations on official business.
Qualifications:
• Candidates must be a U.S. citizen.
• Very strong demonstrated ability to speak, read, write, and perform research in Chinese (Mandarin) is required.
• The successful candidate will likely have worked or studied in mainland China, Taiwan, or Hong Kong.
• Candidates will preferably have a law degree or a Ph.D. or M.A. in political science, history, business, economics, or other social sciences. B.A. candidates with very strong credentials will also be considered.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, and the interpersonal skills and enthusiasm to work under tight deadlines and as part of a team.

Internship for Vietnamese Speakers in DC Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs
DC Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (OAPIA) is currently looking for interns who can speak Vietnamese. OAPIA is an agency in the DC government that organizes public programs for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community and acts as a connection between AAPI members and the DC government. If any student have any interest in this internship position, feel free to apply for it.
Qualifications:
Applicants should be undergraduate or graduate students who possess strong written and oral communication skills as well as organizational abilities. They must be flexible and willing to take initiative. Strong computer and research skills are also desired. The intern should be able to work a minimum of 10 weeks for at least 15 hours per week. Most importantly, applicants must be able to work with diverse populations.
