Sigur Center Grant: Summer Asian Field Research
Sigur Center Summer Grant for Asian Field Research
The Sigur Center offers summer field research grants in Asia for George Washington University graduate students (M.A. or Ph.D.) interested in Asian affairs. These awards provide funding for travel, living, and research expenses while doing fieldwork in an Asian country.The size of the grant is up to $6,000.
This grant is open to all current GW M.A. and Ph.D. students regardless of nationality.
*Applicants can only apply to one type of grant. Those selected for these grants must submit four blog posts (two written posts and two video blog posts) throughout the course of the program as well as a fifth, more extensive blog written post upon completion of the project, giving an overview of their results, and present their findings at a roundtable discussion during the following academic year. Application should include current resume, project proposal, budget, two letters of recommendation, and GW transcripts.

Sigur Center Grant for Asian Language Study in Asia
All language study must be conducted in the relevant country of the language and applicants need to confirm acceptance into a language program before leaving. The size of the grant is up to $5,000.
This grant is open to all current GW students regardless of nationality.
*Applicants can only apply to one type of grant. Those selected for these grants must submit four blog posts (two written posts and two video blog posts) throughout the course of the program and, during the following academic year, participate in an informal discussion with Sigur Center staff and other language grant recipients about your experience abroad. Application should include current resume, statement of purpose, information about the proposed language program, budget, two letters of recommendation, and GW transcripts.
*Language programs must be at least 8 weeks long. If you also intend on taking part in an internship over the summer it must be completed either before or after the language program.
*If you plan to apply for Chinese language study, you are highly encouraged to consider programs in Taiwan. There is more funding available for applicants to study in Taiwan.

South Asia Research Associate
The Stimson Center, a nonprofit international security think tank committed to promoting innovative solutions to security challenges, is seeking to hire a full-time research assistant/associate to work with the South Asia program.
The South Asia program examines a range of regional security issues, including nuclear risk-reduction measures between India and Pakistan, deterrence stability, and non-traditional security challenges.
DUTIES
Essential Functions:• Undertake primary and secondary research using diverse methodologies and sources
• Develop and author original research and written materials including occasional papers, commentaries, reports, articles, and issue briefs
• Provide editorial support for South Asian Voices, the program's website featuring political, military, and economic analysis from emerging analysts in India and Pakistan
• Proofread and copy-edit project publications
• Proofread and copy-edit project publications
•Assist with maintenance of project website and listserv
• Assist with logistics for meetings, press conferences, seminars, and other special events
• Supervise project interns and visiting fellows
• Draft grant proposals and grant reports
• Outreach activities with government offices, Capitol Hill, international organizations, NGOs, and media

QUALIFICATIONS
• Substantive knowledge of South Asian security issues, including demonstrated background in at least one of the following areas: nuclear strategy and nonproliferation; terrorism; electoral politics; civil-military relations; or non-traditional security challenges
• M.A. in a related field, or undergraduate degree and equivalent work experience
• Ability to work independently and to collaborate with peers in a team environment
• Superior writing skills and analytical capabilities
• Diplomatic skills and cultural sensitivity
• Strong candidates will have prior educational or professional experience in the region, language skills in Hindi or Urdu, or a publishing record

• Applicants selected for interviews will be required to complete one or more short research, editing, and/or writing assignments on an issue related to South Asian security.
